The Bihar Museum is an expansive cultural and historical treasure trove that offers a glimpse into the rich heritage of Bihar. The Bihar Museum is designed to be a world-class cultural hub, where history comes alive through innovative storytelling techniques, including digital displays and interactive exhibits.
The museum was constructed by the British to conserve and display the historical artifacts found in the vicinity of the state capital. The concept of having a museum arose in 1912, after Bihar and Bengal were separated. Patna Museum started functioning in 1915 from the commissioner's bungalow, on the campus of A. N. Sinha Institute. The artifacts were then shifted to new rooms at the Patna High Court building before being taken to the present building in 1929. The land that was selected for the museum, in 1925, was on Patna-Gaya road (now Budh Marg). The two-storeyed building, designed by Rai Bahadur Bishnu Swarup, was completed in 1928. It was opened as the first museum of Bihar and Orissa Province by then Governor of Bihar and Orissa, Sir Hugh Lansdown Stephenson.
The Patna Museum Tunnel is an underground passage that connects the Patna Museum to the upcoming Bihar Museum. Sabhyata Dwar, also known as the Gateway of Civilization, is a monumental arch in Patna, symbolizing Bihar's rich cultural heritage. Located near Gandhi Maidan and Ganga River, the structure was inaugurated in 2018. It is built from red sandstone and stands 32 meters tall, resembling India's iconic gateways like the India Gate in Delhi. The arch represents the ancient Maurya and Gupta empires and honors Bihar's contribution to Indian civilization. Taramandal, located within Patna’s Indira Gandhi Science Complex, is a small planetarium that offers an immersive experience of the night sky. Known as one of Asia’s largest planetariums, it is a popular educational and recreational spot in Bihar. The Patliputra Stadium at the Patliputra Sports Complex is a multi-purpose stadium in Kankarbagh, Patna, Bihar. The first Women World Cup Kabaddi Championship was held here in its inaugural year, in which 16 countries had participated. It also hosted seven league matches of new Pro Kabaddi League with its home team Patna Pirates from 7 to 10 August in 2014
The Sport Complex is a modern, state-of-the-art complex, offering facilities for both indoor and outdoor games.
It is spread over 16 acres.
It has a 400-meter athlete track, a swimming pool, and accommodation facilities for 200 sportspersons.
A gymnasium is also on the cards.
Football, boxing, kabaddi, table tennis, carrom, swimming, wrestling, basketball, and taekwondo are some of the games organized here.
Patliputra Indoor Stadium
The sports complex is divided into four wings: Outdoor, Indoor, Coaches, and Hostel.
The outdoor stadium, Patliputra Stadium, has a capacity of 20,000 spectators.
The Patliputra Indoor Stadium has a capacity of 3,500 spectators.
It is also used for training coaches.
The hostel facility consists of a separate wing with 227 rooms.
The outdoor stadium hosts athletics, football, kabaddi, and rugby sevens.
