Bihar Yatra

Vishnupad Temple

The Vishnupad Temple, located in Gaya itself, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the temple marks the exact spot where Lord Vishnu left his footprint on a rock. The footprint is enshrined in the sanctum of the temple and is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple's intricate architecture and spiritual significance make it a must-visit, especially for those performing the Pind Daan ritual. The temple was erected during 1787 by Queen Ahilyabai. A beautiful sacred place on the banks of Phalgu river surrounded by rugged rocks on three sides and water on the fourth side. The second largest city of Bihar is that ancient city which has been talked about in Ramayana (where Lord Rama went to Gaya to do pind-daan of his father Dashrath) and Mahabharata. It has also witnessed the enlightenment of Gautama Buddha. Following this, Gaya is a home to the legendary Vishnupad Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Gaya Pind Daan

In Hinduism, it is believed that performing Pind Daan in Gaya helps the souls of the deceased attain moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). This ancient tradition is mentioned in the Puranas (ancient Hindu texts), including the Vishnu Purana and the Ramayana, where Lord Rama performed Pind Daan for his father, King Dasharatha, in Gaya. The ritual is especially significant during the Pitru Paksha, a 16-day period dedicated to honoring one’s ancestors. The Pind Daan ritual typically involves offering rice, sesame seeds, and water to appease the souls of ancestors. It is performed at various sacred spots in Gaya, each associated with different benefits for the departed souls.

Falgu River

Falgu River: The banks of the Falgu River are another significant location where Pind Daan is performed. The river is considered sacred, and offerings made here are believed to reach the souls of ancestors directly.
